Food and Drink in Migrant Narratives

The intersection of food, drink, and migrant experiences is a rich and nuanced terrain for literary exploration. This panel invites papers (in English or French) that investigate the multifaceted role of food and drink in migrant literature, and that examine how objects, ingredients, and traditions surrounding the act of eating and drinking may function as symbolic markers of identity, agents of cultural transmission, and sites of negotiation between tradition and adaptation. We would particularly welcome papers related to the conference theme, “Translation in Action”, although that is not a requirement.
We welcome papers that engage with the theme of food and drink in migrant narratives from diverse perspectives such as (non-exhaustive list):
· Translation and adaptation
· Linguistics/Translations of names of food and drink items
· Cravings, longing, memory and nostalgia
· Integration and/or assimilation
· Belonging
· Symbolism surrounding food and drink
· Culinary practices and gender roles
· Food insecurity and precarity
· Cross-cultural exchanges through food and drink

· Resistance
· Exploitation of resources/Food, drink and environmental perspectives
· Etc.
